What Other Bed Styles Exist?

You most likely landed on this site because you are looking for modern beds, (also known as a platform bed). But before you make that decision, maybe you should consider other types of beds that exist. A modern bed isn’t necessarily the best type of bed, it is just the one we prefer at http://modernbed.net! And sometimes modern beds just aren’t appropriate for the type of decor that is in the room. If you are wondering about other bed styles, here are a few of the most common ones that exist:

Bed Style #1) Storage Beds – These beds have a similar look to modern beds, but the area under the mattress has a shelving unit so you can store things. That is the most common place for storage space in these types of beds, but sometimes these beds have storage in the headboard. These beds are convenient for people who live in a smaller area and are trying to make the most of their space.

Bed Style #2) Sleigh Beds – These beds have a more traditional look. They are basically regular bed frames, except the headboard and footboard are slightly curved, making the beds resemble a sled (hence the name). These beds are quite simple, but also quite elegant at the same time.

Bed Style #3) Bunk Beds – Bunk beds, like storage beds, make the most of your space, but in a different way. These are most commonly used for kids, and they are typically two beds, one suspended directly above the other and sustained by poles on the corners. Sometimes the bed is suspended above a desk or small living area; this is more common for college kids or young adults living in small lofts, etc.

Bed Style #4) Canopy Beds – These beds are regular beds except they have four posts on the four corners, and there is a drape that hangs directly above the bed from one point, and then falls over the four posts surrounding the bed. The original purpose of canopy beds was to keep insects out of your sleeping area, but now they’ve become popular as a style for a bed, or as a way to keep privacy behind the drapes.

Modern Design Gives a Luxurious Feel

There is a growing trend toward the modern look for new homes these days, and they are generally associated with a rich and fabulous lifestyle. When you think of the modern look, you generally think of luxury lofts, high-rise penthouses, condos and the beach, and mansions on the water. The people you associate with people who own modern furniture are movie stars, famous musicians, and professional sports players. So what are the general rules that characterize a living area as modern? Well if you are looking to decorate your place that reflects a modern lifestyle, these tips should help you out:

Tip #1) Be Minimalistic – The modern look is all about open space and keeping clutter out. Therefore, the less furniture and other stuff you have, the better. The idea is that your mind is clearer when there is less stuff to look at and distract you, and the illusion of space gives the entire area even more of a look of luxury since it looks bigger. This is very any kids rooms or girls bedrooms, but for adults, it does the trick nicely!

Tip #2) Use Simple, Sleek Furniture – This goes along with the same idea as tip 1, where you want to use furniture that is simple, solid colored, and sleek. All the couches should be leather, smooth, solid colored, and made up of defined edges. The TV and any other metal pieces of furniture (like the refrigerator, oven, microwave, etc.) should all be made of chrome.

Tip #3) Use Symmetry Whenever Possible – At this point, you should have a clutter free place with the least amount of furniture possible, and all the colors should be uniform and shiny. At this point, you are already looking pretty modern. Now be sure to use symmetry whenever possible in the entire area, and in places where it isn’t possible because there is an odd number of pieces of that furniture, just try to preserve the balance of the room. Centering things and keeping them equidistant from each other wherever it makes sense will help achieve this goal.

Tip #4) Use Cool Lighting to Accentuate – The right lighting can make or break the entire look of a room. As long as you use lights that aren’t too bright, and you use multiple lights in the room that are dimmers, you will be able to set the ambiance of the room quite nicely. Have lots of lights available so you can set them according the occasion that evening. Usually using a lot of lights with low luminosity will set the kind of ambiance you want for a modern look.
